I grew up in Silver Spring, MD and attended Montgomery Blair H.S.,  from which I graduated in 1990. My next door neighbor was a photographer for the old Washington Star newspaper who gave me my first lessons in photography. When he retired from the paper he gave me his darkroom equipment. Although I love the speed of digital photography, I miss watching my prints appear like magic under the red light of the darkroom.

After high school I attended Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and received my BA in 1995. After college I took classes in photography at Montgomery College and the University of Maryland.  Before I transitioned into full-time free-lance photography I received great hands-on training by assisting local wedding and commercial photographers. I also worked as a Photo Editor at Discovery Communications. All these different experiences have helped round out my photo education and contributed to my unique style of photography.

I photographed my first wedding in 2001 – A friend needed a photographer at the last minute and I wanted to start photographing weddings so it was a great fit for both of us. At the time I was working as an architectural photographer but I really wanted to switch to portrait and wedding photography. The energy and excitement of the day really grabbed hold of me and from then on I was hooked on weddings. Ten years later I still get excited for each wedding that I photograph.

No wedding is alike- each one bears the distinct character of the bride and groom and their families. As the photographer, my role is to capture the moments that set the tone of this special day. My blend of photojournalism and portrait photography means I capture the candid moments as well as craft the formal ones. I will put you in your best light, so that your personality and beauty shine through!
