John has been taking pictures since age eight and won his first prize in a Fairfax County Schools contest in the second grade. His hobby grew to a passion when his aunt lent him a 1976 Nikon SLR while he was a junior in high school. John attended Wright State University in Dayton, OH, and later graduated from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington with a degree in photojournalism. John has been shooting and assisting for Freed Photography for over three years.
During the week, John shoots full time for The Politico, a new Capitol Hill newspaper. John worked at The Hill newspaper and Washington Examiner before joining The Politico team.
John also enjoys snowboarding and rock climbing. As an Air Force brat, he lived all over the country, including Alabama, Florida, Ohio and Texas. He has lived in the Washington metro area for 13 years.
